Subject: Volleyball coverage at the Beijing Olympics 2008
My name is David Butler and I am writing because I, along with many other fans of the game, wish to see wider coverage of the volleyball and beach volleyball tournaments during the upcoming Olympic Games.
Volleyball is a highly watchable sport (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWpajAq_lRA or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgEkuL1J3io for example clips) that is very popular in many countries, yet under-represented in UK. A quick Google search for, say, "most popular sports" or "volleyball worldwide participants" yields numerous articles agreeing that volleyball has a following of roughly 900 million fans - ranked fifth behind football (~3.5bn), cricket (~3bn), hockey (~2bn) and tennis (~1bn).
If the BBC would kindly provide greater volleyball coverage we would be hugely grateful! As a very sociable sport, increased participation in it in parks and sports centres around the country can only be positive and beneficial.
